Although he previously been performing and playing blues electric guitar since his 20s, Holts was over 60 before he became known beyond his home section of southern Mississippi and Louisiana. A pal and partner of Tommy Johnson through the 30s, Holts discovered to play a lot of that musician’s parts. In the 50s, he resolved in Louisiana, and it had been there he was uncovered in the 60s. The Johnson connection appears to have rather preoccupied those that produced his information, but his repertoire was very much wider and bigger, and both his instrumental and vocal abilities were remarkable for the performer of his age group. For a short while around the finish from the 60s, he released some singles by himself label, Bluesman.
