Room Eleven

A self-described “jazzbossafolksoul-combo,” Area Eleven were a five-piece from Amsterdam who played jazzy, clever, and nostalgic music. They started coming jointly in 2001 when guitarist and composer Arriën Molema responded to a “music artists wanted” advertisement vocalist Janne Schra got posted on the Utrecht Conservatorium. It got until 2004 to allow them to circular out a music group with keyboard participant Tony Roe, contrabass participant Lucas Dols, and drummer Maarten Molema signing up for the group. Their effervescent live gigs around Amsterdam became popular as person to person quickly spread. The General record label captured wind of Area Eleven, agreed upon them, and partnered them with DJ/manufacturer Floris Klinkert because of their debut album. The effect, Six Light Russians & a Green Pussycat, made an appearance in 2006. A season later the record was reissued using a reward disc offering the band’s quirky cover from the Meredith Brooks tune “Bitch.” Area Eleven’s second record, Mmm…Gumbo?, found its way to 2008 and attained gold status, however the group disbanded in Dec of 2009, citing too little chemistry and enjoyment.
