Ronnie Carroll

Ronnie Carroll was mainly well-known for a couple of things: “blacking up” being a minstrel to impersonate singers of African descent (yes, it certainly did happen), and representing THE UK for just two consecutive years in the Eurovision Tune Contest. He was created Ronald Cleghorn on August 18, 1934, in Belfast and proved helpful in variety movie theater, where the idea of “blacking up” was a custom from minstrel displays dating back a century and was quite common even while past due as the 1950s.
