Ron Blake Quartet

b. 7 Sept 1965, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Although Blake began playing acoustic guitar, hearing information by Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane got a profound impact upon him and he turned to saxophone, getting proficient on tenor and soprano. However, despite his new-found leanings towards jazz, he researched traditional saxophone at different academies, attaining a typical of quality that allowed him to earn many honours and contests. Although his concentrate was still on traditional music, an opportunity encounter with Gary Bartz in the past due 80s prompted him to change to jazz. Through the past due 80s and early 90s Blake used several market leaders including Bobby Broom, Sir Roland Hanna, Bobby Hutcherson, the Clark Terry – Louie Bellson big music group and Nancy Wilson. He also spent a year or two as Assistant Teacher of Jazz Research at the College or university of South Florida before, in 1992, settling in NEW YORK. Subsequently, he offers played and occasionally recorded with Artwork Farmer, Benny Golson, Johnny Griffin, Slip Hampton, Roy Hargrove (with whom he toured Japan), Eddie Henderson, Jimmy Smith and Rodney Whitaker. He was also an associate of the music group, 4-View. Blake’s dextrous playing, specifically on tenor saxophone, shows a occasionally brooding strength. His soprano function is definitely fleet and inventive.
