Roia

Digital pop group Roia (Persian for “dream”) comes from Salzburg, Austria. These were founded in 2000, when 16-year-old vocalist Nina Hochrainer began working on several songs on a vintage four-track as well as her cousin Dorian Wimmer. After some time, Nina’s father, manufacturer Paul Hochrainer (who’s been energetic in Salzburg because the ’80s), as well as synthesizer participant Sam Vahdat, became a member of the task and begun to record several demo songs within their own studio room. In 2004, Roia’s tune “Suicide Butterfly” received airplay on Austrian radio place FM4. The group after that agreed upon with Viennese label Monkeymusic and released their debut record, Cute Little Dread, in 2006 — an elaborate, experimental pop record that combines Portishead-esque consumer electronics, dreamy melodies, and melancholy tracks, with British lyrics sung by both Hochrainer and Wimmer.
