Roger “Ram” Ramirez

Best-remembered as the author of “Lover Man,” Ram Ramirez was an excellent pianist quite with the capacity of playing in swing, bop and trad configurations. Ramirez, who was raised in NEW YORK, began on piano when he was eight and was a specialist five years afterwards. In early stages, Ramirez caused the Louisiana Stompers, Monette Moore (1933), Rex Stewart, the Spirits of Tempo (1934) and Willie Bryant (1935). He been to European countries with Bobby Martin’s group (1937-39), acquired his own music group back in NY and then caused Ella Fitzgerald, Frankie Newton and Charlie Barnet (1942). After another stint with Newton, Ramirez used the John Kirby Sextet in 1944. He mainly led his very own trio in the middle-1940’s on and started doubling on body organ in 1953. Ramirez was energetic in to the 1970’s (using the Harlem Blues and Jazz Music group during 1979-80), getting semi-active in the 1980’s rather than gaining much popularity except among educated musicians. Over time Ram memory Ramirez led classes for Gotham (1946), Super Disk (1947), Dark & Blue (1960), RCA (1966) and Expert Jazz (1973-74).
