Biography

b. Roger Thornton Dean, 6 Sept 1948, Manchester, Lancashire, Britain. Although established on a technological career, Dean got music lessons and started playing semi-professionally while at college or university. Developing right into a gifted multi-instrumentalist, playing piano, bass and vibraphone, he embarked upon a profession in music and in the first 70s joined up with Graham Collier’s group. In the center of the 10 years he shaped his very own group, Lysis, and was associated with the London Jazz Composers Orchestra. Furthermore to executing, Dean established an evergrowing reputation being a composer, his function in both areas varying over various areas of modern music. Throughout this congested working plan Dean’s scientific profession continuing apace, and in the 80s he trained at Brunel College or university. He relocated to Australia by the end of the 10 years, developing austraLYSIS and dealing with the Sydney Alpha Outfit as well as the Australian Chamber Orchestra. He continues to be energetic in humanities analysis and in 2002 was appointed Vice-Chancellor and Leader of the College or university of Canberra.

1 His famous Retreat Pod is featured in A Clockwork Orange (1971). Mrs. Alexander was seated in it during an early scene in the movie.
2 Designed the logo for Virgin Records.
3 His book "Views" (1975) was used to inspire the design of the stage sets for Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977).
4 Some of his art work is on permanent display at the Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
5 His colorful artwork, often based on the realm of fantasy (dragons, etc.) have been used on album covers for such bands as Yes and Asia.
