Rodion G.A.

Produced in the mid-’70s in Romania, a lot of the function of Rodion G.A. continued to be unheard until 2013 when the adventurous Strut label released a compilation concentrating on the long-lost avant rockers. Head Rodion Rosca produced Rodion G.A. in 1975, the “G.A.” referencing bandmembers Gicu Fărcas and Adrian Căpraru. Their music was experimental and futuristic, a thing that flew when confronted with the sterile pop well-liked by the state-run record label Electrecord, the just record label permitted to operate through the Nicolae Ceausescu administration. Still, the group made an appearance on Romanian tv celebrating New Year’s Eve in 1980, and in 1981 Electrecord released two Rodion G.A. monitors on the compilation. With no State’s support, Rodion G.A. were not able to attain their audience within the arriving years, and in 1987 they split for good. Fascinated with this renowned group, Danish blogger, filmmaker, and developer Luca Sorin approached Rodion Rosca, and in 2012 he submitted footage in the group’s New Year’s Eve special event along with some unheard Rodion G.A. music on the web. The Romanian music staff/historians Upcoming Nuggets helped arrange some comeback gigs for the group, and in 2013 the Strut label provided the recordings the official release using the aptly entitled set The Shed Tapes. A tour of European countries to get the set implemented, along with an announcement that Rosca was experiencing liver cancer. Today even more mindful of his band’s legacy, Rosca came back towards the archives and retrieved a couple of tapes that became 2014’s The Shed Tapes, released with the BBE label.
