The project of Damon Albarn, Tony Allen, and Flea, Rocket Juice & the Moon began when the three musicians met on the plane in 2008 if they were likely to Lagos to utilize Albarn’s Africa Express collective. Recognizing how much each of them had in keeping, the three music artists made programs to record if they could, and by past due 2010, that they had almost completed their first record. The group produced its live debut almost a year afterwards, in Oct 2011 at Ireland’s Cork Jazz Celebration, and performed another gig a couple of days later within Another Honest Jon’s Chop-Up, that was a special event from the record shop and label which Albarn is normally a co-owner. Chicago’s Hypnotic Brass Outfit, Detroit DJ Theo Parrish, and Malian vocalist Fatoumata Diawara had been among the players in the concerts, and everything but Parrish finished up performing over the record (various other contributors included Erykah Badu and Western world African rapper M.anifest). Rocket Juice & the Moon’s self-titled debut found its way to March 2012 on Honest Jon’s Information.
