Roberts & Lord

Indie digital collaboration Roberts & Lord combine the abilities of producer/musician Rafter Roberts and indie/electro-pop performer Simon Lord. The duo’s roots are something of the fairy tale from the digital age group: in early 2011 Lord, searching for a creative electric outlet beyond his current music group, the Black Spirits, took to the net for tips and landed on the music video by Rafter, Roberts’ sound pop task. Some messages had been exchanged and tips shared, growing right into a full-length record. Roberts, who co-owns the Performing Serpent recording studio room and has constructed bands in the Black Center Procession to Gogogo Airheart, laid down the support music to four-track at his NORTH PARK home bottom and delivered the tape to Lord over in London, who added vocals. The mix of Roberts’ sonically lo-fi but theoretically complex paths with Lord’s slick, digitally captured vocals led to a spontaneous, whimsical last item, 2011’s Eponymous.
