Robert Charlebois

Biography

Robert Charlebois is among the most enduring numbers in Quebec rock and roll background and surely continues to be probably the most influential during his profession which spans five years. During this time period he began being a folk vocalist, stunned Quebec by embracing an severe psychedelic rocker, returned to a vocalist/songwriter credo, and advanced as time passed into a grown-up pop/rock and roll superstar. He also acted in several TV series at the start of his profession so when a businessman revolutionized the globe of Quebec micro-breweries along with his firm Unibroue (manufacturers of beers La Maudite and La Fin du Monde) within the ’90s. Charlebois had taken piano lessons during his teenagers and it is self-taught on classical guitar. He began his profession in folk night clubs in the first ’60s, while he also explored performing. His 1st LP earned a reward for Greatest Folk Recording in 1965. The youthful Charlebois was clean-cut, well-spoken, poetic, and adopted in the footsteps of French performers Jacques Brel and Georges Brassens. Tracks like “La Boulée” and “Demain l’Hiver” appealed towards the upper-class college students as well as the intellectual top notch. After the launch of his third LP, the vocalist went on a visit that would modification his musical eyesight radically. In early 1968, he got a vacation to California. Exceptional flower power motion first made by hand the social and spiritual yoke he was raised in actually explode. Back Montréal, he documented the seminal LP Robert Charlebois Louise Forestier. Screaming, swearing, putting on outrageous outfits, and showing his own make of experimental psychedelic rock and roll, he staged L’Osstidcho, a scandalous anti-show. “Lindberg” became popular in Quebec and in France, quickly accompanied by “Ordinaire.” In the first ’70s, he created a sound somewhere within his times as an unaccompanied folk vocalist and his extremes from the past due ’60s. Robert Charlebois [Aka Fu Guy Chu] and Solidaritude are monuments of Quebec rock and roll background. His association with lyricists Mouffe and Réjean Ducharme (an enigmatic Quebec novelist who was simply once suspected to become none apart from Charlebois himself) provided his best tracks from the ’70s, including “Avril sur Mars” and “Je Reviendrai ? Montréal.” By the finish of the 10 years, he fell right into a rut. Significant music in French acquired little publicity on Quebec airwaves at that time. The 1983 LP Robert Charlebois [Aka J’t’Aime Comme un Fou], with lyrics compiled by Luc Plamondon, brought him back again under the limelight at the expense of selecting middle-of-the-road pop. The reissue of his catalog on Compact disc in 1991-1992 presented his early function to a youthful generation, as the discharge of Immensément, a solid record of adult pop/rock and roll, transformed him into an organization (the album gained a Victoire, the same in France of the Grammy award). Still a vapor engine on-stage, he proceeds to execute and records sometimes. One last be aware: Charlebois’ discography is normally chaos of eponymous albums, countless reissues under different game titles, and inexpensive “best-of” collections.
