b. Robin Coudert, Paris, France. Previous art college student Coudert records around the Paris-based Resource Records label, the initial house of French digital superstars, Air flow. Originally a key pad player inside a funk music group, his first break arrived when his monitor ‘Musique Pour El Enfant Jouet’ (‘Music FOR ANY Toy Kid’) appeared around the acclaimed Resource compilation, Resource Materials. His 2001 debut Don’t Destroy exhibited an old-fashioned devotion for power pop as well as the soundtracks of 60s and 70s traditional western movies. The recording also steered from the in fashion French disco sound, with Coudert playing actual devices and eschewing examples and filter systems. He verified his left-field genius with the next 12 months’s Satyred Like, a beautiful idea album discovering the tests and tribulations of romanticism.
