Roamers

R&B vocal combo the Roamers formed in Shirt Town, NJ, in 1953. Based on Marv Goldberg’s profile within the Sept 1999 problem of Discoveries, the lineup comprised business lead Adam Ricketts, tenor Billy Williams, baritone Sam Walton, and bass Judge Taylor. Originally dubbed the Four Flames, they shortly followed the Roamers within an apparent nod towards the Drifters; after unsuccessfully auditioning for Atlantic in 1954, the group agreed upon to Savoy, producing its documented debut later that same season using the Taylor first “FROST NOVA.” At the same program, the Roamers supported Wilbert Harrison on his one “Females and Whiskey,” released in early 1955; when “FROST NOVA” reached the Philadelphia region Best 20, the group continued tour, additionally striking the street with Harrison and Latin bandleader Joe Loco. Within the springtime the Roamers released their sophomore work, “Chop Chop Ching a Ling,” immediately after support Varetta Dillard on her behalf “You’re the solution to My Prayer.” The program became their last, despite a Savoy agreement that held them linked with the label until 1958. The group continuing touring with Harrison until dissolving in 1959. Williams and Ricketts after that authorized to Sue as Billy & Ricky, issuing a set of singles, “Mama Papa Make sure you” and “THE METHOD THAT YOU Audio,” to small see. In 1962 the duo reunited with Walton because the Astronauts, but produced nothing at all beyond an unreleased demonstration before splitting 2 yrs later.
