Riverboat Five

An excellent if today forgotten dixieland music group, the Riverboat Five played no-nonsense New Orleans jazz through the second about half from the 1950’s. Founded and led by clarinetist Ed Reed, the initial group contains cornetist Ted Butterman, trombonist Wray Thomas, pianist Keller Merck, banjoist Dargan Fitch, tuba participant Ed Tedder (who doubled on tenor), and drummer Jim Lunsford. Originally located in Atlanta, the music group created their group audio while playing for 3 years in Atlanta at a garage area that was changed into a nightclub. After employed in the Southwest, they.obtained some fame in NEVADA where these were agreed upon to enjoy eight weeks a year for the Dunes Hotel during 1957-61. The Riverboat Five (that was generally a septet) also captured on sufficiently in NY to become popular appeal at Bourbon Road. They documented six Lps for Mercury during 1958-61 (non-e of which have already been reissued on Compact disc). As the initial three were trim in Chicago using the group’s primary lineup the 4th and fifth had been made in LA with such significant brands as tenorsaxophonist Eddie Miller, guitarist Nappy Lamare, either Ray Bauduc or Nick Fatool on drums, trombonist Bob Havens and trumpeter Dick Cathcart. The group’s last work was cut with an extended lineup reside in New Orleans in 1961. Throughout their profession, the Riverboat Five mainly trapped to dixieland warhorses (with periodic exceptions) but Hall’s agreements and the music artists’ general passion produced their renditions audio fresh and exciting.
