The long-lived New York-based rock music group Riot was formed in 1976 by guitarist/songwriter Tag Reale, who recruited vocalist Man Speranza, guitarist L.A. Kouvaris, bassist Jimmy Iommi, and drummer Peter Bitelli. After debuting in 1977 with Rock and roll Town, Kouvaris was changed by guitarist Rick Ventura, as well as the group came back in 1979 with Narita; Iommi and Bitelli had been another to leave, and with the recruitment of bassist Kip Leming and drummer Sandy Slavin, the traditional Riot lineup was set up.
