Among the early celebrities from the Cumbia motion in Mexico, Rigo Tovar, along with his music group Costa Azul, had several strikes, including “Mi Matamoros Querido” and “Lamento de Amor.” He later on pursued a single profession and broke the attendance record at Rio Santa Catarina in Monterrey whenever a crowd greater than 40,000 people went to one of is own concerts. Through the ’80s, Tovar continued hiatus because of disease but re-emerged in 1989 with a set of albums for the BMG/U.S. Latin label. He also released some albums within the ’90s around the Fonovisa label, including several compilations like 1994’s 15 Exitosas Tropicales.
