Rick & the Ravens are exclusively known for including Ray Manzarek on keyboards and vocals and saving 3 rare mid-’60s singles prior to the formation from the Doorways. Manzarek may be the vocalist on many of these, as well as the author of four from the six tracks. The initial two singles, “Spirit Teach”/”Geraldine” and “Henrietta/”Simply for You,” are sufficient but generic rock and roll/R&B tracks with “Spirit Teach” bearing a solid resemblance to Gary U.S. Bonds’ “New Orleans.” “Big Bucket T” (where Manzarek sings using a slur which makes the name appear to be “Big Fuckin’ T”) is certainly a odd, R&B-colored hot fishing rod tune, while its turn, “Rampage,” is certainly a browse instrumental, once again with heavier blues affects than most attempts in the genre. Both edges from the three singles show through to at least two Doorways bootlegs, including Items of Desire. Although Rick & the Ravens usually do not audio at all just like the Doorways, they do play their little part in the first career from the Doorways. Due to documenting for the tiny Aura label (a subsidiary of Globe Pacific), Rick & the Ravens utilized free studio time for you to record a six-song demonstration in Sept 1965. These demos had been essentially the 1st recordings from the Doorways, as they presented Jim Morrison on business lead vocals, Ray Manzarek on piano, and John Densmore on drums. The just person in the Doorways yet to become listed on, and hence not really around the documenting, was guitarist Robbie Krieger. The lineup was done around the demonstration by an unfamiliar bass participant and two users of Rick & the Ravens, Ray Manzarek’s brothers Rick Manzarek (on acoustic guitar) and Jim Manzarek (on harmonica). The six demos is now able to be heard around the Doorways Box Arranged. Rick Manzarek and Jim Manzarek remaining the band immediately after the demos, paving just how for the access of Krieger as well as the establishment from the foursome that increased to stardom as the Doorways.
