Richard Dering

Author of the oldest known functions to utilize the continuous bass. Dering performed the body organ for Queen Henrietta Maria with a convent for British nuns in Brussels; he thought we would live beyond Britain like many English Catholics of that time period. While he was there he arrived to connection with both Bull and Philips. Regularly Dering’s music could be divided into British and Italian groups. The previous included fantasias (relaxed and melodic), anthems (conventinal), dances for viols and madrigals (enjoyable and complicated). The second option period included compositions (madrigals and canzonettas) which characteristically conveyed pathos and used the basso continuo.
