Rex Stewart

Rex Stewart achieved his biggest glory inside a subsidiary part, performing cornet 11 years in the Duke Ellington Orchestra. After departing, Stewart led different combos and performed throughout European countries and Australia on a thorough Jazz in the Philharmonic tour from 1947-1951. He lectured in the Paris Conservatory in 1948. Stewart resolved in NJ to perform a plantation in the first ’50s. He was semi-retired, but discovered new achievement in the press. He worked well in regional radio and tv, while leading a music group part-time in Boston. Stewart led the Fletcher Henderson reunion music group in 1957 and 1958, and documented with them. He performed at Eddie Condon’s golf club in 1958 and 1959, after that shifted to the Western Coast. Stewart once again worked like a disk jockey and became a critic.
