After departing Chairlift’s lineup this year 2010, Aaron Pfenning returned his focus to Rewards, a solo project he’d been focusing on since 2003. Pfenning got put on multiple hats during his five-year work with Chairlift, offering as the band’s business lead guitarist, back-up vocalist, maker, and co-writer of just about any song, like the strike solitary “Bruises.” He rolled all those responsibilities into Benefits, too, merging his earlier band’s penchant for atmospheric, 1980s-affected electro-pop having a smooth and whispery acoustic visual. To drum up fascination with his new tracks, Pfenning strike the street with We Are Researchers, starting a string of times for the band’s 2010 UNITED STATES tour. He also started releasing material beneath the Benefits name, kicking issues off using the 12″ solitary Equivalent Dreams — released in fall 2011 by Pfenning’s fresh label, DFA Information, with visitor vocals by Solange Knowles and Bloodstream Orange’s Devonté Hynes — and gradually focusing on a full-length debut.
