Restiform Bodies

A mysterious and extremely experimental hip-hop group, Restiform Physiques deconstruct rap using the same strategy that rings like Sonic Youth and Swans took toward punk in the first ’80s. Often severe, moody, and quite bizarre, the troupe comprises of songwriter/vocalist David Bryant (Passing); percussionist and beatmaker Matt Valerio (the Bomarr Monk); and synth, test, and results slayer George Chadwick (Phone Jim Jesus). Motivated by electronica, ghetto-tech, prog rock and roll, and classic R&B, the group had taken an aggressively motivated view from the genre, acquiring choice rap beyond the fringes currently set up by Kool Keith and Cannibal Ox. Frequently sounding similar to Stereolab than every other stage of guide, the group’s exclusive sound and picture resulted in a cope with Anticon Information (a collective that Bryant belongs to), which released their 2002 eponymous debut, in addition to 2008’s TV Adores You Back.
