Ray’s Vast Basement

Ray’s Vast Cellar is really a folk-rock-country music group led by vocalist/songwriter Jon Bernson and located in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, CA. Bernson’s composing for the group continues to be ambitious and extremely conceptual. His idea for the music group was attracted from his conception of the fictional city in north California known as Drakesville along with a personality called Ray McKelvey who operates a speakeasy inside a cave known as Ray’s Vast Cellar. Bernson wrote tracks describing other personas and occasions in the city for the group’s debut recording, On the Banking institutions of that time period, self-released on RVB Information. A second recording, By way of a River Burning up Blue, continuing the tales. Bernson was employed by the Stars Theatre in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA to create and perform music to get a creation of Of Mice and Males, which activated his curiosity about the writings of John Steinbeck. He extended his music for the play into a whole album motivated by Steinbeck’s books, Hunger Under Orange Trees and shrubs, that was released because the third Ray’s Vast Cellar album with the Howells Transmitter label on July 3, 2007. Signing up for Bernson over the disk had been guests including Nate Query from the Decemberists and Michael Zapruder of Michael Zapruder’s Rainfall of Frogs.
