Raymond Hitchcock

b. 22 Oct 1865, Auburn, NY, USA, d. 24 November 1929, Beverly Hillsides, LA, California, USA. Initially an acting professional, Hitchcock later switched also to creation. Among Broadway musicals where he appeared will be the Beggar College student (1898), Three Small Lambs (1899), The Burgomaster (1900), Vienna Existence (1901), Ruler Dodo (1902), The Yankee Consul (1905), The Yankee Visitor (1907), as well as the Mascot (1909). Also in 1909 he made an appearance in George M. Cohan’s creation of THE PERSON Who Owns Broadway, where he sang the Cohan-composed name song in addition to ‘On 100 Different Boats’ and ‘Why They Produced Him Ruler’. Additional Broadway musicals included The Crimson Widow (1911), THE WONDER Store (1914) and Betty (1916), music by Paul Rubens, lyrics by Adrian Ross and Rubens, and reserve by Frederick Lonsdale and Gladys Unger. In 1917, Hitchcock made an appearance in and co-produced, with E. Ray Goetz, Hitchy-Koo, a favorite revue with music by Goetz, who also collaborated on reserve and lyrics with Harry Grattan and Glen MacDonough. Another co-production with Goetz was Phrases And Music (1917), that was aimed by Leon Errol. In 1918 was Follow THE LADY and a fresh model of Hitchy-Koo, which this time around got music by Raymond Hubbell and reserve by Hubbell and MacDonough. The 1919 model of Hitchy-Koo, where Hitchcock made an appearance and which he created, got music and lyrics by Cole Porter, even though show’s songs continued to be one of the composer’s lesser-known functions: ‘When Dark Sallie Sings Pagliacci’, ‘When I PUT A Even On’, ‘I’ve Got Someone Waiting around’, ‘Tune Of The Sunlight’, ‘I’m An Anaesthetic Dancer’, ‘My Cosy Small Corner WITHIN THE Ritz’. For the 1920 model of Hitchy-Koo, staged at the brand new Amsterdam Theater, the music was by Jerome Kern with reserve and lyrics by MacDonough and Anne Caldwell. Hitchcock was a respected participant in 1921’s Ziegfeld Follies, which starred Fanny Brice and in addition highlighted W.C. Areas. He also made an appearance within the revues Pinwheel (1922) and Hassard Brief’s Ritz Revue (1924), in addition to two has, The Sap (1924) as well as the Beaux Stratagem (1928).
