Ray Warleigh

A local of Australia, the alto saxophonist has lived in Britain because the early ’60s. In his youngsters, Warleigh analyzed music and created a pastime in jazz; his 1st model on alto was Paul Desmond. He started playing expertly in the past due ’50s. He relocated to Britain in 1960 and 1st used blues musician Alexis Korner and later on with such English jazz luminaries as Tubby Hayes, Humphrey Lyttelton, Ronnie Scott, and Mike Westbrook. Warleigh documented his first recording as innovator — aptly entitled Ray Warleigh’s First Recording (Phillips) — in 1968 (it continues to be unavailable on compact disk). From your ’60s on, Warleigh continues to be a dynamic freelancer in Britain, adding to countless recordings by such performers for as long John Baldry, Nick Drake, John Mayall, Champ Jack port Dupree, and Georgie Popularity, to name just a couple. Warleigh in addition has kept his feet in jazz and experimental waters; within the ’70s he used drummer John Stevens’ Spontaneous Music Outfit, caused guitarist Allan Holdsworth, and led his personal record times. He performed in the Western German Radio Orchestra and in Rolling Rocks’ drummer Charlie W’ big music group within the ’80s, and documented with flugelhornist Kenny Wheeler and traditional composer Gavin Bryars for the ECM label within the ’90s. Warleigh can be a highly deemed flutist.
