Ray Drummond

Ray “Bulldog” Drummond is among jazz’s busiest program players. His deep, soft bass playing continues to be heard on a lot more than 300 albums, including recordings by Artwork Farmer, David Murray, Houston Person, Stan Getz, Kenny Burrell, Kevin Mahogany, Toots Thielemans, Benny Golson, and Ray Bryant. By himself, Drummond provides led three rings — Excursion, offering David Sanchez, Craig Handy, Stephen Scott, Mor Thiam, and Billy Hart; the Ray Drummond Quintet, with Hart, Handy, and Stephen Scott, along with a duo, Private, shared with Costs Mays. He is constantly on the co-lead the Drummonds, along with his sibling, Billy, and Renee Rosnes. The boy of an military colonel, Drummond went to 14 schools all over the world as a young child. Although he performed trumpet from age eight, and French horn, a high-school music instructor encouraged him to change towards the bass. Quickly settling in north California, he gained a Bachelor level in political research at Claremont Men’s University in June 1968. Carrying on his education on the Stanford Business College, he gained a Masters level running a business administration. Whilst in SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA, he used Bobby Hutcherson, Michael Light, Ed Kelly, Tom Harrell, Eddie Marshall, and Lester Young’s niece, Martha Youthful. He trained at Monterey Peninsula University of Music in 1975. Shifting to NY in 1977, Drummond worked well like a program bass participant for Betty Carter, the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra,Wynton Marsalis, Woody Shaw, Hank Jones, Jon Faddis, Milt Jackson, Johnny Griffin, Kenny Barron, Pharoah Sanders, and George Coleman. Furthermore to working like a sideman and leading his personal bands, Drummond offers continued to instruct. He currently acts as an associate teacher of jazz theory and practice at California Condition University and it has carried out master classes in the Berklee University of Music, Purdue University or college, the University or college of Massachusetts, as well as the Sibelius Academy of Music in Helsinki, Finland.
