Ray Appleton Sextet

b. 1941, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. Getting started like a bass drum participant in his college marching music group when he was aged eight, Appleton was quickly an achieved jazz drummer. When he was 14, he performed appropriately with Wes Montgomery. Five years later on, he visited New York to try out inside a bop group led by Kenny Dorham. Through the 60s, he toured with John Coltrane, Freddie Hubbard and Pat Martino. Of these engagements, he verified to the general public the value positioned upon him by fellow music artists also to a still wider viewers when he documented with these performers, showing up on Coltrane’s Infinity and on Hubbard’s Backlash. In this same 10 years he also documented with Brother Jack port McDuff (DO IT!), and Jimmy Witherspoon (The Blues IS CURRENTLY). Through the next 2 decades, Appleton frequently resided and performed outside his homeland, mainly in European countries. There, he caused additional American expatriates, including Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin and Slide Hampton. This era enhanced his worldwide status, and he produced a direct effect at worldwide jazz celebrations and he also caused Dizzy Gillespie. Appleton’s American engagements in this same period included a six-year residency in the Marc Plaza Resort in Milwaukee, where he caused Buddy Montgomery, and many appearances at exclusive jazz celebrations. From the first 90s onwards, Appleton became a sought-after physique on the brand new York scene, dealing with Pharoah Sanders, Marlena Shaw, John Hicks, Frank Morgan, ‘Big’ John Patton, and David Hazeltine. In 2000, Appleton received his house town’s Lifetime Accomplishment Acknowledgement Award, and in exactly the same 12 months appeared in the Indianapolis Jazz Event. In the first weeks of 2001 he led an all-star Keeping in mind Wes Montgomery Quintet on the west coastline tour.
