Ramblers Dance Band

Shaped in 1962 due to the big strap highlife increase instigated by E.T. Mensah, the Ramblers had been among Ghana’s most widely used touring and documenting groups through the entire 60s and 70s. Beneath the management of tenor saxophonist/arranger Jerry Hansen they created a highly specific style, offering two business lead vocalists performing in close tranquility more than a lush 15-piece orchestral support, blending highlife with spirit and Latin materials. By the finish from the 60s that they had earned huge followings in neighbouring Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Ivory Coastline. Through the 70s, these were the presented house band in the dancehall managed by leading Accra resort The Ambassador. From the mid-70s the marketplace for big music group highlife was fast diminishing, even though band were able to scrape a full time income before early 80s, if they finally split up. Hansen emigrated, settling in NY. Unfortunately, his move intended that when the best music group highlife revival happened in the middle-80s, the group – missing an effective alternate leader – were not able to produce a effective return. In 1986, vocalist Charles Kodjo emigrated to London, where he became a member of Hi-Life International. The Ramblers reconvened in 1990, right now under the management of Jerry Junior, launching a return collection, Giants Of Dance Music group Highlife, for USA label Primary Music the next year.
