Raeletts

This US vocal group (aka the Raelettes) was formed in the late 50s around ex-Cookies vocalists Margie Hendrix (b. Margie Hendricks, 13 March 1939, USA, d. July 1973, USA) and Darlene McCrae (b. Ethel McCrae, NEW YORK, USA), with Pat Moseley and Gwendolyn Berry completing the original line-up. Founded to supply reactive vocals for vocalist Ray Charles, the Raeletts supplied the introducing pad for many professions. Merry Clayton (b. 25 Dec 1948, Gert City, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA) led the group between 1967 and 1969, signing up for Berry, Alexandra Dark brown and Clydie Ruler. Mable John (b. 3 November 1930, Bastrop, Louisiana, USA) changed Clayton in 1970 and led a totally different line-up, offering Susaye Green, Vernita Moss and Estella Yarbrough. Minnie Riperton (b. 8 November 1947, Chicago, Illinois, USA, d. 12 July 1979, LA, California, USA) led a afterwards line-up. The Raeletts do have several minimal strikes via Charles’ Tangerine label, using the Mable John led ‘I Want To (Perform Everything FOR YOU PERSONALLY)’ and ‘Poor Drinking water’ of particular notice, but their regularly changing personnel refused them a far more constructive documenting career. Numerous line-ups of the group performed with Charles until his loss of life in 2004.
