Radial Spangle can be an eclectic trio from Oklahoma Town. The group’s 1st album, 1993’s Snow Cream Headache, includes a cavernous, echoing sound filled up with plinking guitars and responses over that your vocals of Alan Laird and Apr Tippens hover. 1994’s Syrup Macrame displays a massive improvement, mixing noisy, abrasive “town tracks” with loopy, mild “country tracks.” Much like Sonic Youngsters and Mercury Rev, Radial Spangle does not have the pretension of these groups, instead composing tracks about sunflowers and birthdays. From the welcome change.
