Quetzal

Based in LA, Quetzal can be an eclectic, unstable Mexican-American attire that combines a number of Latin affects (Mexican in addition to Cuban, Spanish, and South American) with rock and roll, soul, jazz, and folk. The music group doesn’t focus on mariachi, ranchero, or Tejano — three varieties of music which are very popular among Mexican-Americans — however they have been affected by traditional Mexican folk. Quetzal mementos a bilingual strategy; a few of their lyrics are in British plus some are in Spanish — that is appropriate as the outfit’s music acknowledges different ethnicities. Quetzal was created in 1994 by guitarist/innovator Quetzal Flores, who valued many different varieties of music and noticed to it that his music group reflected his variety. Other users of Quetzal possess included lead vocalist/percussionist Martha Gonzales, vocalist Gabriel Gonzales, guitarist Ray Sandoval, bassist Dante Pascuzzo, percussionist Edson Gianesi, drummer/percussionist Kiko Cornejo, and violinists Rocio Marron and Yunior Terry. In 1998, Quetzal’s self-titled debut recording (that was made by Oingo Boingo bassist John Avila) arrived within the Child del Barrio label; it had been accompanied by the Latinos’ sophomore work, Where Eternities Fulfill. In 2001, Quetzal authorized with Vanguard and documented their third recording, Sing the true, that was released in March 2002. The Steve Berlin-produced Worksongs made an appearance a year later on in 2003, accompanied by Die Cowboy Die in 2006. Imaginaries premiered by Smithsonian Folways Recordings in 2012
