Quatro Ases e Um Coringa

With Os Cariocas and Anjos do Inferno, the Quatro Ases e Um Coringa was the most successful vocal band of its time, basically having a repertory of marchinhas de Carnaval. The group also performed in the effective movies Aviso Aos Navegantes (Watson Macedo, 1950) and Tudo Azul (Moacir Fenelon, 1952). The three brothers Evenor Pontes de Medeiros (acoustic guitar), José Pontes de Medeiros (acoustic guitar/vocals), and Permínio Pontes de Medeiros (business lead vocals/harmonica) and their friend André Batista Vieira (pandeiro/vocals) opened up as Bando Cearense in 1940 in the Ceará Rádio Clube. Using the 5th member (Pijuca, acoustic guitar/vocals), they visited Rio de Janeiro within the next yr as Quatro Ases e Um Melé (Four Aces and a Joker, the joker becoming Batista Vieira). In 1941, they debuted for the Rádio Mayrink Veiga as amateurs.
