The Drive Kings, fronted by singing/strumming brothers Carrick Moore Gerety and Finn Moore Gerety, began existence within the Boston area within the mid-’90s, playing rough melodic songs influenced by Pavement along with other early-’90s U.S. indie rings. Following a few 7″ singles, the males switched gears, refined up their songwriting and learning to be a real pop music group. Ably helped by drummer David Benjamin and bassist Matt Fishbeck, the Moore Gerety brothers started cranking out some amazing Squeeze-esque melodies (laced with Wings-era McCartney at his most coming in contact with) and begun to pull crowds wherever they performed. Registered by regional label Sealed Destiny (run with the Dambuilders’ Eric Masunaga), they released their self-titled debut record in 1997 to rave testimonials. This debut was filled up with natural pop gems similar to Badfinger, McCartney, and Press but with a lot of character of their very own. Japan captured the Force Kings hype and released their debut (with four reward tracks) along with the great Blowin’ Up mini album, which included the album’s “Amount Ones” and a handful of various other single-only monitors.
