Punch Miller

A good New Orleans trumpeter who hardly ever really managed to get big, Punch Miller worked in New Orleans until moving to Chicago in 1926. He used Al Wynn, Tiny Parham, Freddie Keppard, and Jelly Move Morton within the 1920s and caused low-profile jazz and blues organizations in Chicago until time for New Orleans in 1956. He documented a few amounts for Atlantic in 1962 and toured Japan with George Lewis in 1963. Punch Miller’s 1920s recordings like a sideman have already been collected collectively and reissued on the CD from the RST label.
