Preston Love

Preston Love’s career has intersected, albeit quietly, with nearly every facet of popular music within the 20th century. Created Apr 26, 1921, in Omaha, NE, Like started playing the saxophone at 15 and by 22 he was seated for the bandstand as an associate of the Count number Basie Orchestra. Through the past due ’40s and ’50s he toured the Corn Belt playing in place rings with Nat Towles and Lloyd Hunter and finally lead his personal groups documenting for Federal government. He caused Johnny Otis, who had written and produced mostly of the dates with Like like a innovator, the cool R&B party of 1969’s Preston Love’s Omaha Bar-B-Q. Through the early ’60s he shifted to California where he caused Ray Charles and finally became the Western Coast home bandleader for Motown. Touring the U.S. and European countries often, the ’90s found Like also add lecturer and writer to his currently amazing resumé. In Feb of 2004, Preston Love’s extended music journey found an end once the octogenarian passed on after fighting lung cancer.
