Porter Grainger

Very little is well known on the subject of pianist Porter Grainger even though he appeared about many records in the 1920’s, mainly backing blues and vaudeville singers. Not really regarded as that great a pianist, Grainger’s main popularity during his life time was like a composer for musical displays. He was playing music appropriately at least as soon as 1916 and in the 1920’s had written for several displays. Grainger was Bessie Smith’s accompanist in the 1928 creation Mississippi Times and documented with her furthermore to Gladys Bryant, Ethel Finnie, Dolly Ross, Clint Jones, Ada Dark brown, Pal Christian’s Four Cry-Babies as well as the Tranquility Hounds amongst others. Grainger’s very own two sessions being a head found him support either the “Three Jazz Songsters” or the “Jubilee Performers” so there is certainly precious small of him on record. Following the close from the 1920’s, Porter Grainger slipped completely into obscurity; also his delivery and death schedules aren’t known. A 1996 RST Compact disc has a lot of Grainger’s primary recordings.
