Porky Cohen

Best-known for his years as trombonist with Roomful of Blues, Porky Cohen finally had his recording debut being a leader in 1996, an extremely pleasurable outing for Bullseye Blues with lots of the people of the group. He began playing trombone at 13 and considers Jack port Teagarden his most significant early impact. Cohen worked regional engagements from age group 15 and got lessons from Miff Mole after graduating from senior high school in 1941. Following a tryout with Benny Goodman, Cohen used Tony Pastor’s music group, Charlie Barnet (on / off during 1943-1948), the Casa Loma Orchestra, Lucky Millinder, Tommy Dorsey, Boyd Raeburn, Artie Shaw (1949-1950), with a number of Dixieland rings in the 1950s, Bob Wilber & the Six, as well as the Jewels of Dixie (through the past due ’50s towards the past due ’70s). Porky Cohen was a solid asset to Roomful of Blues from 1979-1986 before selecting to semi-retire. Cohen passed on on Apr 14, 2004.
