Popstrangers

Originally hailing from Wellington, Fresh Zealand, Popstrangers make brash however melodic music that nods not merely towards the heyday of their homeland’s Flying Nun label, yet to alt-rock legends just like the Pixies and Nirvana. The music group formed in ’09 2009 when vocalist/guitarist Joel Flyger, bassist Adam Web page, and founding drummer Elliott Rawson fulfilled through mutual close friends and bonded over their like of rings including Sonic Youngsters as well as the Gordons. That Sept, they released a self-titled EP and a divide 7″ with Collapsing Metropolitan areas, both which demonstrated off Popstrangers’ volatile mixture of hooks and sound. The next year’s Happy Mishaps EP, which released drummer Jimmy Macintosh, displayed a far more muscular edition of their sound. In 2011, the music group was nominated for the Critics Choice Honor at that year’s NZ Music Honours (the prize ultimately visited Kimbra). Early in 2013, the trio — right now offering drummer David Larson — released their full-length debut Antipodes on Carpark Information. The group relocated to London, as well as the developing pains they skilled motivated Popstrangers’ moody, psychedelic second recording Fortuna, which found its way to mid-2014.
