Platinum Pied Pipers

Platinum Pied Pipers — manufacturers/music artists Waajeed (among Slum Village’s founders) and Saadiq (students of Motown heavyweight songwriter Barrett Strong) — debuted on Ubiquity’s second Rewind! compilation in 2002. Though they protected Faze-O’s “Operating Great” and Bobby Caldwell’s “Open up Your Eye,” they managed to get evident in early stages that their audio would be just like hip-hop-oriented as other things. They documented their first record, 2005’s Triple P (Ubiquity), using a ensemble of MCs and vocalists that included Sa-Ra Innovative Companions, Tiombe Lockhart, Steve Spacek, Ta’Raach, Jay Dee, and Invincible. Plethora, a more in advance and R&B-oriented come back set, implemented in January 2009. Coultrain, Karma Stewart, and Jamila Raegan supplied lead vocals.
