Piss Factory

Acquiring their name from Patti Smith’s debut solo, New York’s Piss Factory provided a no-frills make of grungy, female-fronted alt-rock. Vocalist/bassist Lizzie Avondet’s vocals had been a mixture of riot grrrl snarl and great bravado, so as the group was likened Gap and L7, brands like Siouxsie Sioux and Johnette Napolitano also surfaced compared to Avondet. The rest from the lineup highlighted Finnish-born guitarist Harri Kupiainen, guitarist Paul Eng, and drummer Andy Markham. Their self-titled debut premiered on Relativity Information in 1993, and was accompanied by the EP I Melt early another year. Piss Stock eventually disbanded, and Avondet and Kupiainen both became a member of Emma Peel off, which released their only record, Play Emma for me personally, in 1995. Avondet shifted to utilize her husband, previous Departing Trains guitarist Bobby Belltower.
