Pinkwash

A electric guitar/drums duo that fuses the accuracy of math rock and roll with the large assault of steel as well as the articulate trend of punk, Pinkwash hail from Philadelphia, Pa. Vocalist and guitarist Joey Doubek and drummer Ashley Arnwine crossed pathways for the Washington, D.C. punk/indie picture in the 2000s, plus they first performed jointly in another two-piece group, Ingrid. (These were also people of the group Mass Movement from the Moth.) During Ingrid’s afterwards period, Doubek’s mom was identified as having malignancy, and he became her main caregiver as she experienced an extended and painful struggle with the condition. In 2008, Arnwine remaining Ingrid and relocated to Philadelphia; she continued to try out in the group Waxahatchee. A couple of years later on, Doubek also relocated to Philadelphia, partly because he wished to make music with Arnwine once again. The two setup a soundproofed practice space therefore they could practice normally because they wished, and in 2014 they created Pinkwash. The music group name originated from “pinkwashing,” a term describing the activities of large companies who use breasts cancer awareness inside a cynical method to market their items. Pinkwash made an instantaneous effect on the Philly and D.C. punk moments, and released a five-song cassette EP, Your Remedy Your Ground, in June 2014. The music group doubled down on the interpersonal and politics implications of their name using the solitary “Cancer Cash” b/w “Pores and skin,” released in 2015. (The A-side included an example of the audio of Doubek’s mother’s deep breathing machine.)
