Philippe Rogier

Philippe Rogier was the last Franco-Flemish author of the renaissance to serve in the Spanish courtroom. He was created in Arras around 1560; 1st reference to him isn’t until 1572 when he was recruited like a choir young man into the support of Spanish monarch Philip II. No known information stay of his education, but as he authorized himself as “sacerdos” in his magazines, one must conclude that he previously been ordained like a priest. In 1584 Un Escorial — a massive complex containing among the King’s personal residences — was finished, and at exactly the same time Rogier was called associate to chapel grasp George de la Hèle; the next year Rogier made up the mass Ave martyr gloriosa and motet In illo tempore in special event of the relationship from the King’s child, Catherine Michelle of Spain, to Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy. in 1586, de la Hèle passed on, and Rogier acceded to chapel grasp. Although Rogier’s renown didn’t increase beyond the edges of Spain, he was granted benefices and prebends in France, his indigenous Flanders and actually in Germany, which he kept until his untimely loss of life at about age group 35 in Feb 1596. In his will, Rogier produced provision for the publication of five public, which his helper Géry de Ghersem undertook in 1599; another three endure, along with 25 motets and a small amount of other works. Almost all Rogier’s result was kept in the library of John IV of Portugal, that was destroyed through the Lisbon earthquake of 1755.
