Acting instead of singing continues to be the arena that obtained Phillip Michael Thomas his popularity. He performed Detective Ricardo Tubbs in the strike tv series Miami Vice for five years in the ’80s, and before that were highlighted in such movies as Sparkle. Thomas attempted to parlay the tv screen stardom into musical achievement, but his mid-’80s LP for Atlantic couldn’t create any curiosity on either the pop or R&B aspect.
