Philip Gelb

Philip Gelb is among a small number of shakuhachi players concentrating on songs. He has examined shakuhachi with Kurahashi Yoshio, Ronnie Nyogetsu Seldin, and Dale Olsen Bai-o. He provides performed throughout THE UNITED STATES, European countries, and Japan being a soloist and in a variety of ensembles, premiering many new functions for shakuhachi single and in mixed ensembles. His recordings have already been released on Deep Hearing, Leo, Gleaming Beatnik, New Globe/Countercurrents, 482music, Ryokan, Abray, Cultural Labyrinth, and Limited Sedition. He provides received awards in the Florida Arts Council, Meet up with the Composer, as well as the Knight Rider Base. His current tasks are the Space Between with Pauline Oliveros and Dana Cause, duets with interactive pc composer Chris Dark brown, Trio Natto with koto professional Shoko Hikage and digital musician Tim Perkis, collaborations with dancer Eri Majima, and Trio Alphaville with saxophonists Jon Raskin and Phillip Greenlief. Furthermore, he comes with an energetic freelance profession including several visitor soloist appearances using the Seattle Innovative Orchestra. He retains a bachelor’s in anthropology in the School of Florida and went to graduate research in ethnomusicology on the Florida Condition University College of Music. He afterwards lived and trained within the Bay Area.
