Phil Manning

Vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Phil Manning brought the lyrical aspect from the blues to Australia. Being a founding person in Chain, among Australia’s most widely known blues rings, Manning continues to be equally successful being a soloist and sideman for an extended list of performers including Bo Diddley, Champ Jack port Dupree, Mick Taylor, Kristina Olsen, and Electric guitar Shorty. The grandson of the Tasmanian bandleader, Manning cites Blind Blake, Robert Johnson, Doc Watson, and Celtic music as affects. In 1967, he started using harp participant and vocalist Matt Taylor in a brief lived music group, Bay Town Union. Following group’s disbanding in 1968, Manning and Taylor produced String. Although Chain’s debut record, Live (1969), hinted on the band’s skills, the group’s second record, On the Blues, produced them nationwide superstars and was authorized for gold position twice.
