Phil Baugh

Phil Baugh was one of the better program guitarists in Nashville through the 1970s and ’80s. Blessed and elevated in North California, he started playing electric guitar and executing in churches as a kid, which resulted in music group and nightclub gigs. He got his initial big break using Ray Cost, who helped him get yourself a recording agreement with Longhorn Information in Dallas. In 1964 Baugh and Vern Stovall documented the album Nation Guitar, which included two major strikes, “Country Electric guitar” and “One Guy Music group.” In 1965 he was called Best Guitarist with the ACM, Outstanding Instrumentalist of the entire year by Billboard, and Instrumentalist of the entire year by Cashbox. Baugh rejoined the Ray Cost band being a business lead guitarist in 1969. He transferred to Dallas 2 yrs afterwards and became a prominent studio room musician for industrial jingles and record projects. Baugh transferred to Nashville in 1975 and there became among the most popular session players around. His exclusive sound stemmed from his invention from the “Phil Baugh Pedal,” made up of six pedals that bent the strings of a power guitar to create sounds much like that of a metal pedal acoustic guitar. Baugh created the Superpickers in 1980, including steel guitarist Friend Emmons, drummer Friend Harmon, bassist Henry Stryzlecki, pianist Willie Rainsford, and percussion/harmonica participant Terry McMillian. Through the early ’80s, Baugh also embarked on an effective producing profession. He experienced a coronary in 1985, but continuing focusing on the Nashville Network’s Chapel Street Station. Nevertheless, he never completely regained his health insurance and passed away in 1990 at age group 53.
