Trailblazing, experimental acid-folk outfit Phantom Family members Halo produced in Louisville, Kentucky around key associates Michael McMahan (the For Carnation) and Dominic Cipolla (Sapat). Steeped in the darker, intensifying sounds from the ’60s and ’70s, the group skillfully mixes the savvy, avant-garde folk of Six Organs of Admittance using the explosive, swampy, unstable psych rock and roll of Roky Erickson. PFH released its debut long-player, Star of Dark Six, in 2007, accompanied by Monoliths & These Blooms Never Die in ’09 2009. In 2011, the music group unleashed Mindeater, a collaborative EP with Bonnie “Prince” Billy, in the Knitting Stock label.
