pH Balance

After seven years fronting the Atlanta bossa-jazz-pop group Cicada Sings, chanteuse Pam Howe witnessed a performance by bluesy groove experts G. Like & Particular Sauce which was motivating enough to improve her musical view. Having an natural fondness for hip-hop, Howe and longtime collaborator/drummer Chris Burte toyed with the thought of a new task and in 1997, roped in several local membership DJs to greatly help fulfill their eyesight. Aaron Platt and Captain Mudfish Starbolt had been the lucky recruits (afterwards joined up with by percussionist Tony Adam) as well as the trip-hop audio of pH Stability was created. Their specific and collective reputations, plus a solid buzz in the Atlanta music picture, were more than enough to improve the ears of Indigo Young ladies’ Amy Ray, who agreed upon pH Stability to her not-for-profit indie Daemon Information and released their self-titled debut in 1999. Comparable to the seductive artistry of the U.K. counterparts Portishead and Everything However the Female, Howe and Mudfish alternately sing, speak, and rap participating melodies over live (and sometimes looped) rhythms.
