Biography
American composer Peter Garland was created in Portland, Maine, in 1952. He started composing prior to the age group of 20 while learning under Harold Budd and Adam Tenney at Cal Arts in the first 1970s. During this time period, Garland also researched performance artwork and video with Wolfgang Stoerchle, and American books with poet Clayton Eshleman. Garland has already established a minimum of four recordings of his compositions released by brands including Tzadik, New Albion and Avant. Furthermore to composing, Garland can be a musicologist and essayist. Being a musicologist, he focuses on traditional U.S. and Mexican musics and 20th hundred years American composers. He explored while surviving in Mexican villages for a few years through the 1970s and 1990s. Garland spent the ’80s in Santa Fe, where he previously his own executing ensemble and may also research Southwestern Indian and Hispanic musical customs. In 1991, he ceased posting Soundings Press, a distinctive source of songs information and brand-new composers’ scores. Then traveled the planet for four years, going to twelve countries over five continents. These moves yielded Garland’s third reserve of released essays, Eliminated Walkabout. Garland also authored a six quantity work, Collected Research of Nancarrow & Paul Bowles. In 1997, Garland came back to Mexico to compose, focus on his 4th publication of essays and research Jarocho music and tradition. The Tzadik label released an recording of single piano functions in early 2000 known as the Days Work Away.
