Among the initial bands to mix the folk rhythms of Colombia’s Buenaventura area as well as the cumbia of Cuba, Peregoyo Con Su Combo Vacana were known because of their unique electric powered guitar-dominated sound. Researching a reissue of their early-70s record, Tropicalismo, RootsWorld stated that Peregoyo Y Su Combo Vacana “hardly ever lets up since it hurls groove after incessant groove at you, sax and trumpet blazing from a route cut by unwanted fat, no bloated bass licks, pervasive percussion and searing single and group vocals”.
