The SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA Bay Area-based Penguin Jazz Quartet began like a trio in 1994. The trio, which contains guitarist Pat Smith, drummer Russ St. John, and bassist Sumit Das, had been soon became a member of by pianist Expenses Walker. Based on the quartet, they garner motivation from the functions of such jazz stalwarts as the Gene Harris Quartet as well as the Expenses Evans Trio. The Penguin Jazz Quartet documented a self-titled Compact disc in 1996 that included both jazz specifications (e.g., My Crazy Valentine and God Bless the kid) along with unique compositions. The Quartet performed in the 1996 Healdsburg Summer season Series and proceeds to accomplish stints in Bay Region coffee bones. On Snow, their second Compact disc, premiered in middle-’99 and features unique music alongside of interpretations of such specifications as Wayne Shorter’s Footprints, Expenses Evans’ Time Kept in mind, and Herbie Hancock’s Watermelon Guy.
